I recently learned how to study with music...which i great cause i was always such a tune hater when studying. However, in an effort to avoid distraction, and get out of my house, i've taken to the campus coffee shop. I used to drive over to the Lussac between classes, but i started doing gas and time math, and decided i'd take advantage of the overstuffed chairs on campus. It really is amazing how quiet things seem when submerged in particular tunes...me gusta este.
This weekend was on the lite side, the weather is warming and its getting more and more difficult to hike each weekend...especially with the warming and the snowing and that damn avalanche knowledge. Poor conditions kept z crew y yo out of the hills this weekend, but it came back with forced creativity. Friday macky and I scoured Hatchers for a safe hike, no luck, but not ones to be easily defeated we settled for some road runs...,not a soul was up there to provide us with rides, so we busted a few solo, before we missed eachother to much in between and settled in for a ladies night with Caley and KTB...which seems pretty ridiculous considering the "party" of ladies involved.....no nail painting, no hair "diding", just tea, pizza and flicks (the titles are to risky to my cred. to release). twas nice.
Saturday i found myself back in anchorage, as once again hiking plans were thwarted by weather. The plan was simple, session Spencer's box and bonks, which we did, and this quickly lead to the idea for relocation of "the box"....which we also did. Carly had been scoping downtown earlier this last week and found a sweet set-up for said box. Together Carly, Arabia, Syd and I (joined later by a V-neck sweater vest named eric), transported the 10+ foot box to downtown anchorage and created our own mini eutopia of sorts, involving hulahoops, fire, a giant speaker box, a delapitated half-pipe, "the box" and ash. I don't have any photos of this hoopla myself, but perhaps in the future Syd and Carly (both of whom documented) will provide some for our entertainment. I suppose i should explain the "ash" addition to the set-up; twas compliments of Mt. Redoubt and the wind, which decided to press right over us during the inaugural lighting of the fire hoop. We pressed on, by desire to see this through and stupidity, with ash in the eyes, mouth and lungs the final moments of the day were spent heavily. Was it worth it? Aside from a gnarly headache (partially from a literal bonk of the head earlier), photo-wise ash and fire are money....and we made some fine digital money in those last few moments before packing up and getting the hell out to avoid any long term bodily damage...........
So now it is Monday and i find myself sequestered in my own little musical world,in the coffee shop, on campus, working on a bitch of a genetics lab report and waiting....with anticipation for the microlab to open. So sue me, I'm really excited about the nitrogen cycle experiments, as well as, running a couple tests on my unknowns today.....AAAAAHHHH science, you do it to me...

my what a pretty rod you have there.
Sometimes when i'm doing studying, or researching for a report, i allow myself to procrastinate by googling microbe images...my favorites are usually the pathogens, but today i went general and was rewarded in beauty....try to tell me these aren't some hot rods...ba da da! crash.

hello monday my old friend.
I started playing ball again, i suppose i can't really say i ever quit it has only been six months since i was last a member of any team. My little bro convinced me that his coed team was just cause to come out of retirement, and Sunday i had my first couple games with them. Currently, we're playing A-league coed, and getting slaughtered. I'm going to chalk it up to poor chemistry, most of the kids on this team have some futbol skills, but no one seems to realize skills are shit when your not communicating on the field. Regardless of our early season woes, there maybe hope, maybe...but then again if Brucey's right, it could be a very long season...
Didn't get to ride much this weekend, spent about three hours up in Aly before an avalanche class, like riding on 35 degree cement wall. Cracked my pretty pink lens on my first run down silver tip, and at that moment decided resorts are EVEN more over-rated than i originally thought.....next weekend back to hatchers....
Finally finished the project in microbio, my partner and I had originally tried to isolate a strain of S.aureus, but were detered from it by our professor who was worried we'd create a pathogenic form. In lou of that, we went after S.epidermidis, saturday, B was working in the lab with our samples and ran some coagulase tests, and came to the realization EVERY sample we had was S.aureus. I'm alittle pleased and rather amused that the project went full circle back to our original goal.....now there's just the matter of the report....oh boi!
ALSO, i learned how to do this.

tried a couple in the park saturday on a new tire feature they've erected....
practical application: minimal success...with moderate progression.
self prescription: keep workin it on dryland.

evolutionary basis of self importance?
I do not feel like I often discuss my social philosophy openly, typically these conversations take place in one on one situations or small groups oriented to the pursuit of philosophical construction. Location and time are somewhat beside the point, as this current train of thought has been building for months now.
Spurred initially by the book " The Virtue of Selfishness", a collection of essays by Ayn Rand and contributor, Nathaniel Branden, discussing objectivist ethics and their application socially , economically and politically. Though these readings have influenced my thought, I must contribute equal influence to the characters with which I surround myself. I think I finally have a grasp on a theory that satisfies my curiosity at the moment, but I’ll be the first to admit it may not be an all encompassing explanation.
I can not remember who it was, I'm leaning toward Freud, that presented a theory about how evolution (which I follow) is progression, and the human desire to progress can be likened to a desire for importance in life. Striving for importance is what drives us to "progress", though not all those who strive for importance are “technically” progressing in any direct. Importance can be found in almost every facet of life, the pursuit of it depends directly on the individual, and how they achieve their own "feeling" of importance.
For many, like myself, this satisfaction can be found in the hierarchy which one places on their life, their priorities. Ideally, these priorities provide for progression in life as a whole, and are expressed in a healthy manner. A "healthy manner" is one which I would term as having no negative affect on any other person's life or one's own.
Some people find importance in their life through the simple pleasures they afford themselves, For example, I find my life importance in pursuit of knowledge (uni), or snowboarding, or any act which has a positive affect on my life or another, without negatively affecting either. People may find importance through fair competition (a normal aspect of nature and evolution) with others, via athletics, politics, exc. However, there are also the people who can not grasp the concept of nature in which tides change, hours jump forward and back, and nothing is absolute. They seem to lack the ability to accept these natural fluctuations and instead search for self importance in besting someone else via an unfair advantage.
I don’t really know the application of this yet, it really locked it together the other day when I made an honest attempt at explaining racism…odd, this I know... I spent last night reconstructing the theory and it’s been waiting to burst out ever since….anyway, enough of this mumbo jumbo…I broke my solo digital camera last week…photos may be shy for some time, perhaps I’ll fill these spaces with my political ranting instead…oh boi! ;)

- I can not begin to fathom having to deal with this.
Fair enough, the rest of this entry is a bit more up beat. Spent the weekend in the homeland, originally by nature, rather than choice, but as i have eluded to, i was quite willing to stay come saturday morning...

-and it didn't stop till late that night.
Not that any great stretch of imagination is needed to guess what happened next.
As it was eight in the morning, dutifully, i dialed the phone numbers of a couple of my favorite and most reliable riding buddies. In moments, after finishing my "patented bruce breakfast sandwich", which was fairly amazing and should really look into a patent as no one deserves to eat that well, i was out the door to my car, swimming through the snow in my hightops.
Every moment of this last weekend was well spent....i feel like i just met mother nature.
