The Soggy Southeast

A little over a week ago i was overcome with the strongest desire to go...i solved it rather quickly and procured a seat on a plane to Sitka, AK. Sitka is an amazing little secret in the Southeast on Baranof Island, a joint effort between the citizens and the townships makes this place an excellent example of going local.
Macky also happens to be working on her masters in teaching at UAS, on an island right next Baranof, adding to the radical nature of my trip...

...everybody heads to Talkeetna...
Syster and I made a little pilgrimage north this weekend to meet up with a few friends in Talkeetna at the Moose Dropping Festival. Ones for adventure, we decided to take a scenic detour to Hatchers Pass for a little hike and hoop sesh....

RIP Sali

Unfortunately, Sali did not survive her post-op recovery. The doc gave me antibiotics for her, and we hoped she'd pull through. Many probably remember Sali for the stand-up serpent she was, often the life of the party, always a gem in our hearts. I'm sure gunna miss that scaley little worm, she will be buried at the small back hill behind the barn.
Heres to Salizar Nagini Hesselbach (2005-7.7.2009).

stats

Shalom all! It's been a fabulous week since Toolik, regardless of how much I miss that joint and those people. I've been working at the Cafe and finally getting down to some much needed craft time, seriously i can't remember when the last time I sewed was (well last night, but prior to that months). This past week my darling sister arrived from Manhattan, just in time for her first forest fair (fff!), so she and I, along with a varitable collection of friends and family, cruised the little mountain town of Girdwood for a day and a night. We attempted to see the Whipsaws about three times, with no success, but that simple failure wasn't much for keeping our spirits down. Surrounded gaeity and adventure, every nook of that main street was a world of it's own, bands on boats, LED poi balls, bikes, scooters and the works....ahhhh Alaska i love you, always have, always will.

Mum donated another camera to the cause (cause? i suppose i'll have to find a way to legitamize this if i keep calling it a "cause"), nothing fancy, Canon powershot, but it gets the job more than done. So i was able to take it to the forest fair and catch a small hand full of moments.

Not to drop the happy ball, but my dear snake Sali just made her first trip to the Vet. Originally, I had thought Sali was a male constrictor, but over a multitude of hours of research, it became apparent that she was, in fact, a corn snake. When she dropped over a dozen eggs in her tank a few weeks ago, it was decidedly a sign that he was a she. She's been laying eggs randomly over the last few weeks and, i suppose, while i was gone she became egg-bound (when the eggs gets stuck inside...) so i called the vet, took her in and all my research says they should be able to fix her.

This small problemo aside, everything has been rolling along fabulously, i just got my film from the Toolik trip developed and i'd say for such a simple no zoom SRL, i'm pleased...
